After the detox diet it is now time to start phase 2 the anti candida diet. The detox should have flushed out a lot of the candida yeast that was in your colon and get your liver and kidneys in great shape to function too there best ability. Now phase one is done you can start to eat a more standard diet that contains complex carbohydrates and protein. This diet will be for approximately 8 weeks. You will also add probiotics (Phase 3) and anti fungals (Phase 4). Phase 5 you will start introducing foods back into your diet. Many of the foods in the anti candida diet are chosen because they contain natural probiotics high in nutrients and some contain healthy fats. All of these are low in simple carbohydrates which is a very important factor in the diet.
Continue eating large amounts of veg and salad but introduce small amounts of protein and complex carbohydrates.
Continue to drink lots of water, you can now introduce some herbal teas and chicory coffee.
Continue with detox supplement like Candidate.
Continue with this diet for around 8 weeks.
Here are some general rules that you need to be aware of when you are planning your meals during your Candida treatment:
Eat lots of non starchy vegetables.
Only eat whole unprocessed foods.
Protein - Eat eggs and fresh cuts of meat (no processed meats).
Do not eat fruit - These contain too much sugar.
Use herbs and spices to flavour food .
Drink lots of water (Herbal tea and chicory coffee are also OK).
This diet is much less restrictive than the detox diet but there are still many foods you would be used to eating that is off the menu so be creative with your food and use herbs and spices and try ingredients you haven’t had before.
Artichokes, Asparagus, Aubergine, Avocado
Bamboo Shoots, Bean sprouts, Beet greens, Bok choi, Broccoli, Brussel sprouts
Cabbage, Cauliflower, Celery, Chicory, Chillies, Collard greens, Cucumber, Courgette
Garlic (Fresh), Green beans
Kale, Kim chi
Leeks, Lettuce (all types)
Okra, Olives, Onion
Radish, Rocket, Romaine
Sauerkraut (raw), Seaweed, Spinach, Swiss chard
Water Chestnut, Watercress, Wheatgrass
All of these vegetables have a low glycemic load apart from Turnip which is a starchy vegetable but this has a strong anti fungal property. All of these foods you can eat as many of these as you would.
You can start eating some carbohydrates now but only in small quantities and only complex carbs like millet and quinoa as show above. It is a very important point that should be made. Any time these grains are processed they become easier to digest and their glycemic load increases. The same goes for multi grains and wholegrain, even though they may contain some of the grains listed if is far more likely to feed your candida overgrowth. It is important you stick to these carbohydrates when on the diet.
Only eat fresh meat & fish - No processed products. We would recommend only eating small quantities of red meat as this is hard to digest and causes the stomach to increase in pH which causes candida to switch too its more virulent fungal form. Only eat small fish as these have a shorter life than large fish that can accumulate heavy metals in there bodies from the polluted seas of todays world. Another great source of protein is Hemp protein which can be bought in power form and added to baking or oat bran or buckwheat cereals each morning.
Plain yogurt (No added sugar)
Probiotic yogurt (No added sugar)
Natural yogurts are great probiotics so can help with your candida treatment. It must be unsweetened yogurt and make sure any yogurt or kefir that you buy contains live probiotic cultures.
Hazelnuts, Hemp seeds
Pine seeds, Pumpkin seeds
You can eat a small amount of nuts at this stage of the diet. Nut milk like almond milk or coconut milk is safe to eat as long as they are unsweetened.
These mushrooms have been shown to boost your immune system so are good to eat.
Apple cider vinegar
Basil, Black pepper
Cayenne, Chillies, Coriander, Cinnamon, Cloves, Coconut aminos (Alternative to soy sauce), Cumin, Curry
Himalayan sea salt
Tarragon, Thyme, Tumeric
Pumpkin seed oil
Virgin coconut oil
If possible always get cold pressed oils as these are much better as the oil is not damaged during the extraction process of manufacturing.
If you are used to sweet processed food you may need to add some sweeteners to some food. These are the too products that can be used. With Stevia make sure you buy a 100% Stevia product as sometimes there can be additives. It is acceptable if it contains erythritol.
No foods with high glycemic load - This includes fruit, rice, pasta, Potatoes, bread, starchy vegetables and processed meat. The only starchy vegetable you can eat is turnip
No foods that contain mould - Certain mushrooms can trigger an immune response if you already have a fungal infection. Certain mushrooms are useful in boosting your immune system
No processed foods or foods with added sugar
Try and buy organic if possible
Obviously it is not possible to list all foods that should be avoided so it is best to work from the tables of foods you can eat as non of these with feed your candida overgrowth. It is very important you do not eat any fruit apart from the 2 listed in the vegetable list which are Avocado & Olives.
Parsnip, Peas, Potatoes
It is important you do not eat any of these kinds of starchy vegetables.
Gluten can trigger a immune response reaction to those suffering from candida so it is important you keep away from these grains and any foods that are made from these grains like bread, pasta or crackers.
All large fish
You should only eat small amounts of meat at this stage of the diet. Do not eat any meat that is: Smoked, Cured, Vacuum Packed. Stick to fresh cuts of meat that are from your butcher or local supermarket.
Artificial Sweeteners (Asulfame, Nutra-sweet)
Chocolate, Coconut Sugar
Hopefully by now this is pretty obvious but you should be eating no food that contains natural or added sugar. This includes honey as some people think this is ok as it is a natural product. Artificial sweeteners are included as these still spike your blood sugar levels. If you need to sweeten anything stick to Stevia or Xylitol as expressed earlier.
You should avoid all alcohol as this is a poison and puts your liver and kidneys under huge stress. They also contain huge amounts of sugar.
Dairy contains Lactose which will feed your candida. Use unsweetened almond milk or unsweetened coconut milk as a substitute. The only dairy you can eat is live yogurt or Kefir that have live cultures.
Drink lots of water
Herbal teas - Recommend Dandelion tea or Nettle leaf tea
Chicory root coffee - Buy 100% Chicory
You can stop with the detox drink at this stage but no harm is done if you wish to continue to drink it.
