Phase One: The Detox

The first part of the Candida diet is to go through a vital part of detoxification of the body. This helps to:

  • Fight off the candida infection
  • Flushing out the colon and expelling as meany of the Candida yeast cells as possible

  • Give the liver and kidneys a chance to recover by eliminating toxins from your intestines

  • Relieving any constipation that you could be experiencing.

  • Key Points of Phase One

    • Eat a diet of mostly organic, low-starch vegetables
    • Drink a Detoxifier drink 3 times each day

    • Drink lots of water

    • Take a detox supplement

    • Follow this detox plan for 7 days

    • What to eat during the Detox

To flush out the colon all that is required is a strict high fibre diet that contains lots of vegetables, especially green vegetables.

      Things to Avoid

      • Cut out as many sugars as possible - During the detox we would recommend avoiding all natural and added sugar

      • Avoid fruit entirely

      • Drink lots of water

      • Cut out all meat and fish - These are hard to digest

      • This may sound difficult but it’s only for 1 week as a colon cleaning diet and only followed for a short time. It is not a diet that is followed long term. In this phase you will eat very little protein or carbohydrates but this is OK.

You may feel a little hungry in this detox phase due to your body craving some of the foods you cut out like sugar and high sugar foods. if you are struggling to stick to the diet because you are too hungry you can eat 2 free range eggs per day. Eggs are a great source of protein and nutrients and easily digested so won’t clog up your intestines during the detox phase. A great way to start the day is with a vegetarian omelet for breakfast as cereals and breads are off the menu.

Your Diet points during The Detox phase

        • Eat only organic vegetables with low starch content
        • Drink lots of water

        • No starchy vegetables

        • No fruit

        • No added sugar

        • No meat or fish

        • [OPTIONAL] Eat 2 organic eggs each day

        • A List Of Vegetables To Eat

This list of vegetables doesn’t contain any starchy vegetables like carrots, beets, potatoes, peas or corn. This is because they are high in carbohydrates that might spike your blood sugar and feed a Candida overgrowth. You will be able to add some of these back to your diet later on, but for now you should stick to this list of organic veggies.

Artichoke, Asparagus, Avocado (strictly this is a fruit but it has very few carbohydrates)

Bamboo shoots, Bean sprouts, Beans (green beans only), Bok Choi, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts

Cauliflower, Celery, Chilies, Cucumber, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts

          Greens (collard, kale, mustard)

          Okra, Olives, Onions

Salad greens (arugula, chicory, endive, lettuce, romaine, spinach, watercress)

          Seaweed, Swiss chard

          Water chestnuts

          Cooking Ingredients During Your Detox

The detox diet can be a little bland so its important to liven up your food by adding chilies, herbs and spices. You can also you regular seasoning like salt and pepper and lemon juice. The best oils to use are Coconut oil (Which is a great anti fungal) or extra virgin olive oil which is great for salad dressings.

          Apple cider vinegar

          Coconut aminos, Coconut oil

Herbs and spices (pure, with no other ingredients added),

          Lemon juice

          Olive oil

          Cooking Methods

          • Eat raw
          • Lightly sauté or stir fry
          • Steam

          • What you should drink during The Detox

          • Lots of water - This helps flush out toxins through urination and regular bowel moments.

          • Herbal teas - Dandelion tea, nettle leaf tea, ginger tea.

          • DON’T add honey, sweeteners or milk.

          • Detoxifier drink 3 times a day before a meal - (Recipe below).

          • Unfortunately coffee and tea have to be cut out during the detox. Caffeine can stress your adrenal glands. Cutting out the caffeine will give your adrenals a chance to recover and boost your immune system. IMPORTANT: If you are a heavy coffee drinker quitting cold turkey will put even more stress on your adrenals. So you must start to gently reduce caffeine intake well before you start the detox.

            Making the Detoxifier drink

This is what is required for 3 pints which will last for 1 day. Just make it in the morning and store in the fridge for that day.

            • 3 pints (1.4 liters) of water, preferably distilled or at least filtered
            • 2 tablespoons of unpasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar

            • Juice of 1 Lemon

            • 1/2 teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper

            • Preparation is easy - Stir all the ingredients together and drink. NOTE: Always stir before drinking when you have left it in the fridge to mix up the ingredients again.

Why take the Detoxifier drink and the ingredients in it?

            • Distiller water Stay fully hydrated helps liver & kidneys to expel toxins.
            • Apple Cider Vinegar Cleansing agent that breaks down mucus and encourages your lymphatic system to expel toxins. NOTE: Make sure you buy unpasteurised, this means the nutrients have not been stripped out.
            • Lemon juice Gentle antibiotic effect that kills harmful bacteria. Mild stimulative effect on the Liver allowing it to expel more waste. Promotes peristalsis - The contractions that move waste through your gut ensuring healthy bowel movement.
            • Cayenne pepper Helps to break up mucus in the small and large intestine. Promotes healthy bowel movement and contains Capsaicin which helps with circulation .

            • Should you take supplements during the detox?

Do not take any anti fungals or probiotics at this stage.

This may be too stressful on your body to introduce these at this point as you have just gone from a high sugar processed food diet too a healthy cleansing diet.

You can take a good detox supplement now which will help the body detox before you move to the next stage. This will also reduce the chance of suffering from Candida die off during the later phases of the treatment.

Candida die off is when large numbers of cells are destroyed and release their toxic byproduct into your bloodstream. Usually these toxins are released slowly, but when large amounts of cells and colonies are destroyed much larger quantities are released. Chemicals like the neurotoxin acetaldehyde, uric acid & ethanol are released. This can cause symptoms like nausea, headaches, fever, itchiness & acne. The best way to stop this is to add a good detoxifying supplement during the detox phase and continuing taking this supplement until you have added the probiotics and anti fungals later in the diet.

              Detoxifying supplements to buy

              • Milk Thistle (This is a world renowned supplement for cleansing the liver)

              • Candidate (100% herbal supplement designed for candida sufferers)

              • NAC with Molybdenum & Selenium

              • Typical day during the detox

                • 6.30pm Dinner (Veggie soup)

                • It is very important that you are eating enough food and drinking lots of water to be having regular bowel movements as this flushes out a lot of unwanted toxins and also some of the troublesome Candida colonies.

Even though the diet is mainly vegetables you should still eat enough to feel reasonably full. If you are struggling to feel satisfied after a meal try eating a little more avocado or eggs. The most important thing is you are getting enough soluble fibre to promote regular bowel movements.

If you are struggling with bowel movements try a good herbal tea like Dandelion tea as this has a mild laxative effect. Some gentle exercise can also help so even when in the office remember to stand up and take walk around once in a while.

                  Use a sauna

A good method to help improve circulation which helps in the task of toxin elimination is to use a Sauna. This will help to improve the function of your liver and kidneys. Sweating is a great way to remove toxins from your body so just 15 minutes in the sauna per day will open up your pores and reduce your Candida symptoms. Don’t eat a heavy meal before you use the sauna and always drink lots of water to keep hydrated. Always take a shower after to wash away the sweat and toxins you have released.

                  Light Exercise

Only do light exercise as too much can put your immune system under great stress and can lead to adrenal fatigue. Walking or gentle cycling are best. If you are a regular gym goer who pushes themselves it would be best to just ease off this for a whole, it will be beneficial in the long term. .

                  Preparing for the next phase

You must make sure you have everything bought and in place before you begin the detox phase so that you don’t slip off due to been under prepared.
